Wind Tunnel
Functions
Wind tunnels have two main functions: To help you develop your external car components, and
to enhance your car's finesse. Wind Tunnels are the only device in the game that will improve
finesse.
So, you've created all your chassis, you've built a fine engine and
enhanced the whole package with advanced technologies...now what?
Well, that car your design team have made for you is pretty impressive, there's no
denying that. However, there is always a little more fine tuning to be done...that's
where wind tunnels come in.
Finesse
Once you've built your chassis components, they fit together quite nicely, but not perfectly.
A chassis' finesse is an attribute that denotes fine tuning, tweaking and ultimately aerodynamic perfection, for one collection of
external components.
If you work on chassis finesse, then change one external component, your Chassis finesse will
drop back to 0%. So make sure your happy with your car before you start investing millions running
your wind tunnel (note, if you change the component back again, your finesse will return).
External Component Development
Your wind tunnel can also be used to improve your cars external components. Although development through
a wind tunnel can have a dramatic affect on improving your components over a very short space of time, the
end result is usually not worth the financial trade off, Wind tunnels cost the earth to run, and by the time
you can afford one it's unlikely you'll need to do too much more development.
If you do decide to use your wind tunnel for external component development, take note that by nature, the wind
tunnel will improve grip & aero attributes greatly, but have much less of an effect on weight and reliability.
Significance of higher level Wind Tunnels
A top spec wind tunnel (5 stars) will be able to improve finesse to a maximum of 100%, smaller wind tunnels will
run out of puff somewhere between 92% and 98%. A 5 star wind tunnel will stay online longer, so you can improve components and finesse over less races,
and their cost per hour is better than their smaller counterparts. Are they worth the extra money you'll pay for one? Only you can decide that. |
